Sometimes I wish I was a man...

Clothes influenced by:

Winston Churchill, Franklin Roosevelt, Charles de Gaulle, Benito Mussolini, Nelson Mandela, Chairman Mao, General Kalashnikov, Malcolm X, John F. Kennedy, Fidel Castro, Margaret Thatcher and Joseph Stalin.

Amazing - they should make some for women. I would choose a "Roosevelt Overcoat" (1st picture), priced at £599, but unfortunately sold out.

Recent purchases

One week in Vienna:
Accomplishments - bought tickets to go and see the Vienna Phil (with Lorin Maazel!) + in just under 4 months, I am going to see PAVEMENT. Live. At the Wien Arena.
We also have a year pass for the Schönbrunn Tiergarten. On the downside however, I cannot understand the Viennese accent (awkward if you are in a Kaffeehaus and you are talking, they understand, but doesn't work vice-versa). Also, I have 8am starts on Mondays - in the dark, cold, snowy weather.... But then again, I am seeing my favourite band. In 4 months.

...and it means nothing to me... oh Vienna! (and in between)

We have really been jet-setting. Vietnam, Moscow, Paris, Avignon, Vienna - with some exciting trips in between...

Les parents came over to pick us up from Avignon and we went to Roussillon, Gordes, Fontaine de Vaucluse, Pont du Gard and Zürich. This is probably why there hasn't been much activity on here.

We're now in Vienna - it's like being in a snowglobe. The snow is soft and it makes that really satisfying sound when you step in it. Another satisfying sound in Vienna that I discovered: the noise that the ticket machine makes when you validate the ticket. Gold.

Walking around Vienna was pretty bizarre today - it doesn't seem like much has changed here over the years. There are still old shop signs up and the buildings exude an imperialistic aura.

Our apartment is so much better than I expected. It has an amazing "Hochbett", giant kitchen and heated floors! Gone are the days where we live in sub-zero temperatures in order to save on heating costs - although, it might just be a little bit too hot in here now. Also, a proper fridge/freezer (complete with ice-maker!) and an OVEN (ultimate luxury item!).
Last night that the parents are here - so should spend some quality time (except that mother has a magazine and father is watching Juventus vs. Rome), usual company of Adam it'll have to be.

Vietnam

Vietnam...
Finally, a reliable internet connection! Hard to believe that X-Mas and the New Year have passed us by. I have truly been living in my very own little Vietnamese bubble, and it's been fantastic.
So far:

Hanoi, Sapa, Hue, Hoi An... and Ninh Binh. Everything has been absolutely incredible from the food to the people. Biking around country roads in Sapa, meeting the locals and being stared at...
         Timetable so far:

The journey so far :

TGV Avignon – Paris

Paris – spend night in Youth Hostel (gross and expensive)

Paris – plane delayed on runway for approx. 3 hours (due to snow)

Meet 2 angry Armenians in Moscow airport – both musicians, very nice

Finally plane from Moscow to Hanoi!

Arrive in Hanoi, change 100 euros – instant millionaire!

Taxi to Hanoi city centre – try to bargain, but end up paying more anyway

After 10 mins, decide that Pete is annoying // look for other hotel

Sapa Rooms “boutique” hotel = $44/night, Mountain View Hotel (which has amazing views over the mountains) only $20/night. Pete annoying, doesn’t let us change hotels, so now stuck at expensive Sapa Rooms (no free coffee in the morning!)

Explore Sapa – accosted by ethnic minority women (Red Zao / Hmong)

Eat @ Chocolat & Baguettes (delicious laksa)

Gorgeous views – walk to nearby village (Cat Cat) / Fairy Stream / beautiful lush countryside

Knock over food on boat

Go to handicraft village island

Back to Hoi An (why do we always see the grossest tourist here – complete with hat and awful lesbian boots)

Hoi An

Tired, general heat-induced malaise

Pick up shoes + disgusting dress (can’t believe I wasted $30!) – the dress is HUGE and highly unflattering (I don’t think the Vietnamese tailors understand curves)
